Report: Ballmer wins Clippers bidding war

(Los Angeles, CA) -- Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer may be in line to be the new owner of the Los Angeles Clippers. The "LA Times" reports he has won a bidding war to acquire the franchise with a record-setting bid of two-billion-dollars. Embattled owner Donald Sterling gave wife Shelly power to sell the team after he was given a lifetime ban by the NBA after recorded racist comments he made against African-Americans went public last month. The NBA's Board of Governors is scheduled to meet Tuesday.

The proposed sale price would set a record for an NBA franchise. If the sale is approved by league owners, it would be the second-largest sale price of a professional sports team in North America. Baseball's Los Angeles Dodgers sold for 2.1-billion-dollars in 2012.
